I use pain only for these reasons:

-- To discipline (genuine punishment). This is different than striking in anger: I never punish when angry, only when I am calm and have decided it is necessary for the submissive to accept discipline to receive my forgiveness.

-- To provide pleasure of a submissive. Many people are aroused by pain. A light flogging can feel like a soothing massage to even the most pain-hating bottom. On the other hand, some people LOVE pain, and in this case I adore giving it to them as a reward and a way of connecting.

-- On VERY rare occasions I use it to allow a submissive to PROVE himself to me, as a test of willpower. For example, I may tell my submissive, "if you truly love your Mistress, you will walk across this bed of painful plastic spikes in your bare feet to meet her."

Pain, of itself, does not arouse me in any way. If I get aroused by it, it is either from the pleasure my submissive is getting (some masochists actually squirm and wriggle with delight when beaten, becoming harder at every minute -- hard NOT to be aroused by that....) .... OR.... by the control aspect, e.g., the fact that they are ENDURING it for me, for the privilege of being near me, as per above.

HOWEVER, this relationship with pain does not mean I am incapable of giving extreme discipline when it is necessary. I am not squeamish or avoidant of discipline: I simply do not fetishize it. What I enjoy is the potential result of pain -- your OBEDIENCE!
